The Brief

New Hall School hosted a black-tie casino night for their boarding students, with the casino as the main feature of the evening.
With no other entertainment planned, the goal was simple: create an exciting, premium “casino pit” experience that would keep
80 guests engaged from start to finish.

The Casino Setup

We created a strong focal point by positioning the tables in the centre of the theatre, forming a classic “pit” area that felt
like a real casino floor. The gaming line-up was designed to suit a mixed crowd of first-timers and more confident players:

  • Blackjack x 2
  • Roulette
  • Texas Hold’em Poker

Music was kept subtle with a Spotify background playlist, allowing the room to stay lively while keeping game explanations
clear for new players.

Guest Engagement & Flow

All tables were busy throughout the entire dealing period. Guests rotated between games, with one key difference:
Poker naturally held players for longer due to its format, while Blackjack and Roulette encouraged quick turnover and
high energy.

Importantly, every guest played at some stage, which is exactly what the school wanted — broad participation,
lots of laughter, and a shared experience rather than small groups watching from the sidelines.

Big Moments on the Night

Although the evening wasn’t run as a formal competition (no prize and no organised “casino opener”), the games still delivered
some memorable highlights:

  • One guest placed their final bet of $400 on “0” at Roulette — and it landed, creating a huge moment and an
    impressive win of $14,000.
  • A new player also won the Poker game, finishing the night with a strong stack after building momentum table-by-table.

Food & Overall Atmosphere

The school provided a canapé and small buffet service, which worked perfectly alongside the casino format — guests could dip in,
grab food, and return straight to play without breaking the flow of the night.

The overall atmosphere was described as “lovely”, with a really positive reaction from both the students and
the chaparones.

Venue & Client Feedback

Staff were delighted with the evening — as they were the previous year — and commented on how completely the casino transformed
the theatre space. With the casino as the only entertainment, it became the main attraction and
the highlight of the evening.

The client was extremely happy that everyone got involved, mirroring the success of the previous year. Feedback after the casino
finished was consistently strong across all tables, and based on the response, it’s very likely the school will book again.

Why This Event Worked So Well

  • Central “pit” layout created instant atmosphere and a natural crowd hub
  • Game mix suited both beginners and confident players
  • High participation — every guest took part
  • Perfect timing (7:30–9:30pm) for maximum energy and engagement
  • Professional hosting ensured first-time players felt comfortable joining in
